United Methodism and the Emerging Church
Wow! Was I surprised!
Some of you may know that I have a huge interest in the topics of the emerging church and postmodern faith.
As the previous post notes, when I am not perusing sermon material, or course of study requirements, I can generally be found reading books on those subjects -- particularly in the area of worship. So it is that when visiting the General Board of Discipleship's Worship site recently while exploring various liturgy for Advent, I noticed a new area: Emerging Church.
In subsequent e-mail discussions with Daniel Benedict, who fairly well administers that area on the Web, he asked if I would write a little something on what we are experiencing at Green Meadow (aka, The Meadow), particularly how we try to link worship and the missional aspect of discipleship. While I probably didn't do the best or most comprehensive job (I was still recovering from a tooth extraction), I think it will be interesting to see how people answer the questions Dan poses at the end of the write-up.
Check it out at www.gbod.org/worship/default.asp Click on the link that says "Emergent Church: The Meadow."
The best thing I can say right now is this: Thanks be to God for a congregation that is open to taking risks for the sake of Jesus Christ, while experiencing faith and discipleship in a different way.
Grace and peace ...
