Family Promise of Blount County coming to The Meadow!

Grace and peace to you in this season of Advent!

While not in the most timely manner, it is with great joy that I report to you the results of the December 3, 2008, called Charge Conference at Green Meadow. The community of faith was in one accord with the following:

To formalize our cooperative mission with Family Promise of Blount County, which includes renovations for the purpose of housing the day center under a lease agreement to be negotiated by the trustees of Green Meadow and Family Promise of Blount County.

What that means is we at Green Meadow and Family Promise of Blount County can now begin the work of raising $17,000 to prepare our church to be the Family Day Center for homeless families. The families will stay in one of 13 host churches during the night, coming to Green Meadow during the day.

There is lots of work left to be done, but this is an important step in the birthing of Family Promise of Blount County, and the life of Green Meadow as a missional community. May God continue to bless both communities as we seek to serve Jesus Christ by serving the least, the last and the lost. If you would like to give specifically to the Family Promise mission, please make the check out the Green Meadow, noting "Family Promise" on the memo line.

A stewardship note: In addition to our ongoing budget needs, we are in need of "extra-mile" giving as we seek to meet our obligations as a connectional United Methodist Church (that means our apportionments, which total nearly $11,000 this year). If you would like to write a check above your regular giving specifically for our apportionments, please note that on the memo line.

A missional note: Community Food Connection is barely keeping up with the growing number of hungry people in Blount County. Be sure to bring your peanut butter this Sunday, as well as any other "extra" food you may have on hand.

Grace and peace ...
